An attempt to gain land by trickery is thwarted |

To Satazumi - and a horde of litigants. A chair wanted here likewise. I think an indent for a number of chairs had better be submitted. |

The Cheswezuma Gaonburas came in here. They asked me for some Government land which I very curtly and definitely refused through Solhu. They then went to Visar who was hearing cases outside and told him that I had promised to send a dobashi to see the land and have it divided up between the Gaonburas. This was absolutely false, but the purpose is obvious. Later on they would have come to Kohima and said that I had promised them the land at Satazumi, and Visar would have been called in to attest the truth of their statement, and if they had put it off for a few months I might easily have been had. The trick has been probably worked successfully before. If not, it was uncommonly well stage-managed. They got me when Visar was busy, they did not argue in the least - in itself suspicious - and hurried away as fast as they could go after seeing Visar. I will take great care that they get no share in the land at all. |
