To Dimapur by lorry. At Piphima a large crowd was waiting for me as there was a dispute as to who would succeed a recently deceased Gaonbura. After an election, in which it was particularly difficult to get the individual villagers to vote, Tsikerr was elected to be Gaonbura in place of Kozehe - dead. Viseu (Kozehe's daughter) is exempted revenue. |

Another contentious question was what rent, if any, Sema and other exotic settlers in Lower Piphima were to pay for their cultivation of Piphima land. After the two sides had had a somewhat heated discussion I passed the following orders:- Each existing settler at Piphima will pay -/2/- yearly to the Angami khel for the use of land. Any new settler may be refused leave to cultivate at all, but if leave is once given, and rent accepted, he will thereafter be entitled to cultivate on payment of that rent, as long as he lives in Piphima. |

Tsuwoma came in to complain about fields devoured by elephants. Ketsore apparently went there. He is to report. Kosiru and 3 others are said to have had their fields entirely destroyed. I gave them exemption. |

In Civil Case 223 of '24 a decree was given against Gokelhu of Piphima. Rs.6/- was paid at the time, Rs.3/- has now been paid and made over to D.H. The J.D. is now getting Rs.11/- per month as Chaukidar in the Public Works dispensary. Assistant Engineer must be written to to cut Rs.3/- per mensem from his pay to be credited to the decree. |

At Dimapur I heard the pleader for the appellant in the Jogeshwar Barua-Phukan case and met Subdivisional Officer Mokokchung, with whom I discussed the Survey of the Longhong-Chasa area and other matters. S.D.O. returned by the midnight train to Nakachari taking with him a pair of my stockings. |
