Customs and legends at Chidi |

To Chidi, via Mesangpi and Tsopo - 9 miles. Recounted Chidi. On the way we passed a natural hollow in the rock (by a big boulder) called the Chungi's pig trough and also 3 deep holes in a sandstone boulder near Chidi known as the Spirit Wash basins. They apparently act as dew ponds as everyone asserts that never in the driest weather does the water in these holes evaporate. There is always enough there to wash in. |

Mesangpi applied for a gun. They are willing to pay for one and probably need one as there is none in the village. |

I noticed at Tsopo that individuals do a genna in which miniature wooden stakes are put up (with bamboo spears) as at the Oyantsoa before choosing their new jhums, suggesting the common association again between human sacrifice and agriculture. |
