14/5/1926 To Khonoma. Renewed gun licences and listened to the old complaint that the powder and caps allowed on a licence is much too little. I told them that they could have one of two things - an increase of the allowance in which case I should put an end absolutely to all extra issues of powder beyond the licence, or the status quo under which I give passes for very considerable amounts of extra powder etc. for village ramashas or cases where damage is done by wild dog, tiger etc. They said they preferred the present arrangement to one under which no extra passes would be granted. Of course the amount allowed on a licence is small enough - half pound does not go far. |

The Merhema people came as usual for the site of the fort. I said I would consider nothing until the village water supply, which Merhema have stopped, was reopened. |
