26/5/1926 To Jaona, a reasonably short march of 8 or 9 miles. Renewed a few gun licences. The Gaonbura of Injoma came and applied for leave to shoot an elephant in revenge for his son who was killed by one recently. As this elephant is known and proclaimed and is now reported at Sugit and Tolbung I told him he could go and shoot that one. It wasn't what he wanted, as he would sooner have gone to look for the equivalent of what is known across the frontier as "easy meat". Also the homicide has no tusks, another blemish, nearly as bad as its unpleasant disposition. |
