Irrigation supply problem for panikhets |

26/8/1926 Back to Kohima dealing with some more encroachments. Zhakrule of Sachema was told by Assistant Engineer he might make a band below the drain at the corner in the cutting before crossing the bridge to Zubza Inspection Bungalow. The Assistant Engineer is of opinion that by making such a band he will defeat his own object as the drain will silt up at once and he will get no water at all. He seems to think that by building a band he can get water to a little piece of extra panikhet which was originally cultivated by carrying a pipe across to road in a bamboo. This was stopped in 1909 and he was told to take the water below the road. He did this till 1922 or 3 when Mr Jolly put in a slab drain under the road. This took the water out at a level which made him unable to tap the water and he complained apparently, but nothing was done and his complaint got lost sight of. Last year he complained again. Next year he is to be allowed to make his band and see what happens. |
