Improvement in some villages; an inefficient muharrir |
text: |
Sent the coolies direct to Keruma (they were obtained with much difficulty) and went round by Habvunyu (Chekrama) and Phekekrima both of which I counted. Altogether about 15 miles, but unusually exhausting on account of the exceptional heat. All these villages seem to be improving just now and to have many more children and adolescents than when I was here last. |

The bridle path is in good order till near Keruma, where it is used as a cattle path, in spite of the fact that the Muharrir has not been beyond Rongazumi since more than two years ago and has only been as far as Rongazumi once since then. Yet he had no hesitation in asking for a gun on account of the frequent dangers he had to encounter on this road. |
