To Chipoketami. On the way I examined with the Overseer the site for the new suspension bridge over the Teseru. Two estimates were made for this bridge, and they did not agree as to the span required or the anchorage, although said to have been made out for an identical spot. I found that it was possible to reconcile the two plans farely well, but that the one with longer span seems to be the safest as the river is likely to cut in on one side, to which there is a definite set, as the current is turned towards it by the rocks on the other, also it transpired that after having visited the site the late Overseer sent back the road Muharrir to measure the span. It will therefore be safer on all grounds to take the latter estimate as correct. |
