to Baimho; homicide and inter-village hostilities |
text: |
To Baimho, visiting Sheyepu and Sotoemi en route. A number of Transfrontier villages in about the alleged homicide of a man of Shothumi by a man of Chashorr. After going into the matter in detail it became clear enough that the spear was thrown by Sotokurr - on Chashorr land, Sotokurr and Shothumi being already at war. Shothumi when the alarm was given turned out and chased the first stranger they saw, a man of Chashorr, and probably really thought he was responsible when they went in and complained at Mokokchung, and were unwilling to withdraw from their position, which they had since discovered was a false one, till a graceful way out was found for them. After about an hour of talking and a very eloquent speech by the head man of Chashorr, who should have been a professional orator, the way out was duly found and all departed satisfied. |
