Pungithung among others met me on the way they were allowed a village gun two months ago and the first use they made it of was to let two youngsters shoot a crow out of season. Many complaints about the damage done by elephants to the crops. |

Both Lungithung and Kitami want a boundary laid to settle the annual disputes about land between them. I will bear this in mind and try and arrange to go there in November. Possibly Sub-Divisional Officer could meet me at Lungithung. |

Pungithung apply for a school. They have been applying for years, but there is no money apparently to open new schools - I have not yet received my grant for the current year but I do not expect to find any additional funds in it. Possibly some school will expire during the year, when the funds for it can be transferred. It happens not infrequently. |

The serai chowkidar, Santemo, who is also responsible for the rice supplies for the hospital complains that he cannot get people to sell rice for money but can get much better value for oil and tobacco - I have told him he had better keep oil and tobacco (not cigarettes) and use them to buy rice with, in which way he can get his rice for -/1/- per seer (and possibly make a little profit). |
