text: 30th. To Kohima - by the longer route. I measured up some C.W. work on the way. The culvert in the 13th mile is going again. It ought to be built of dressed stone by a proper mason instead of dry stone. I also had a look at the new transport lines in the 13th mile, and fixed Rs.7/- as the amount to be paid for the land. This includes an extra broad belt of land all around the existing fence to keep fire from the building when the jhums are burnt. I told Rakhile, the former owner and the owner of the adjoining land that he should be chaukidar. It would be a good thing to plant the compound with dhub grass (zhotsu).
text: In the 2nd mile there is a tin culvert which has given way. It should be replaced by a stone one.
text: I notice that Kohima village have taken to using red rags to scare birds with. I asked the reason and was told that they had found by deliberate experiment that birds were much more afraid of red than of other colours or even of white.
