Thankyou very much for your letter of Dec. 26th. Though I have given up the charge of the Naga Hills district, I am still in the Hills and remain so till the end of the operations against the Kukis, when I come home on furlough. Indeed my transfer to the General's staff for the Kuki operations has given me a much needed chance of seeing something of the Tangkhuls, Khoiraos and Kacha Naga tribes of the Manipur State and the Somra Tract on the Burma side and enabled me to get a much better notion of the Naga tribes as a whole than I could otherwise have done. With any sort of luck I ought to be able to get back to the Naga Hills, though I may have to put in a spell of the plains first when I get back from leave. |

As for the photographs I have asked the Assam Government for funds to publish them while I am on leave and can see them through the press. I am afraid I shan't get them and at the outside can hope for enough for the Angami monograph only, but if you could get at the Assam Government through the Anthrop. Institute it would probably help tremendously. I suppose one couldn't induce the University press to publish the Sema monograph. I know nothing about it but imagine it is endowed and if so its function ought to be to publish works that can't pay their own costs. |

I hope the last specimens of the Seromi celts arrived safely. I hope to be able to bring home a few odds and ends for the musuem, and am much looking forward to meeting you. |
