We rode 9 miles to PIPHIMA. Fine, sunny & very hot. The Inspection-bungalow had suffered badly from a hurricane, one side being nearly stove in. It served its purpose however. Many Red-vented Bulbuls in the compound. Butterflies very abundant, especially a small yellow one with dark m==gius which clustered in large groups. After lunch I went with Nikrihu to visit 2 native villages; one a village of mixed Angamis, Semas & Nepalese, close to the bungalow; the other, pure Angami, an older village on the top of a steep hill. On the way there we passed many old & new stone platform-graves, mostly rectangular.
