Unusual genna stones and tabu signs on firewood; description of Merami |
text: |
In morning I merely strolled about photographing etc. At 3 pm. I started off with Nikrihu to walk to Merami (4.5 miles from Kohima). Very pretty walk along a good track most of the way. Daturas, cannas, convolvulus etc enlivened the route. Passed many panikhets with growing rice & jhum fields with coix lacryma crops. Fine views over the northern hills - Sema country to the East & Rengma country to the west. I passed a group of 5 pairs of genna stones, erected by Khrievihu, who must have been something of a scholar to judge from a stone slab inscribed in quaint English & recording his achievements. By the wayside were some stacks of firewood protected with tabu signs. |
