text: Another strange trial was one for witchcraft which I was obliged to hear when on tour in the Angami country. In my case the images were of clay and pins were stuck into them. The witch was a very old woman and must have practised the art for money. To do nothing was not advisable as the villagers would probably have killed her or driven her out on the hillside to die. Fortunately she had come from another village and her relatives there took her away to look after her.
