Improved communications, while they have immensely facilitated internal trade, have undoubtedly spread disease. All Nagas assert definately that since their country was taken over illness has increased. Not only have specific diseases, such as venereal disease and tuberculosis, been introduced, but epidemics spread more quickly. In the old days of war and raiding villages remained more or less constantly segregated. Nowadays people travel everywhere and disease spreads quickly. Tuberculosis is definately established. So far its spread has been slow, but the time may come when it will become rampant and the Nagas and Kukis or these hills will follow other primitive people into oblivion |
