text: (107) Jan. 9th. Monday.
text: Day broke early, accompanied by Abung and a can of hot water. Dispensary opened again. Lame Chiru's foot better. Had breakfast with more or less constant stream of callers, and then went down village, accompanied by S.B. Took photos of houses,
text: Periodically the men went into the house, a painted one, and sang there. Zu flowed merrily. The girls all stayed outside by the fire, where I was.
text: About 10.30 I got back, and the faithful Wombat, looking faintly reproachful, produced dinner. About 11.30 Kakadan came back, very cheery, with torches, and went down to Atongba's house to eat the pig I (109) saw - and photographed - them roasting.
text: During the party one good lady made me take off my Tangkhul cloth and draped me in a Kabui one. The chair they gave me was the one recently occupied by my prize syphilis case, if it is syph., which I strongly suspect.
text: Among my dispensary cases was a man with a (suspected) cracked rib, sustained in chasing the pig. Suggested he go to Imphal and offered to pay expenses. Offer gratefully received, but with no enthusiasm for the trip. Strapped him up with Elastoplast.
text: 11.40 p.m. Ejected village drunkard from basha yard.
