Another dispensary, and off at last. Still not feeling up to much. Had to sit down for rest. Compounder, in rush of quite unnecessary tact, went on ahead and left me with Luikai, who was on good form without the compounder to quell him. Long, long dispensary at village half-way. Awful jam of people, germs etc. Felt half-dead. They gave me a lovely cloth, but I was too tired to see it till later. Crawled up the hill to Huining after camping at bridge and collecting reception committee, hunting party etc. had to sit down and rest, and panted at every corner. Oh, disgrace! Had a grand whisky tea an two aspirins and perked up no end. Large dispensary. Like Pao-yi, many people attacked by sprots. One old boy had been severely attacked by a vampire, so prescribed Carter's Little Liver Pills, with complicated directions. Calomel good specific against spirits. |

Ticked Luikai off about being dirty. He said he'd run out of soap, so issued one cake Lux. He promptly went off to wash and came back light copper again, though somewhat chilly. |
