text: Rained hard in a.m. Depressed lorry-driver said he didn't think he could do it. After prolonged argument with driver and compounder, Jeff sent chaprassi on bike to call coolies in to head of pukka road. Eventually left with lorry completely full of jappas and children, at 3p.m. Reached Y'pokpi about 5 in lorry, coolies saying road was O.K. & they'd rather walk back without my loads than with them. Wombat fell on bungalow path and grazed his knee; fuss about quarters, where chaukidar had been cutting up cow for his wife's funeral and omitted to remove traces. More fuss over compounder's coolies. Thunderstorm, and so to bed.
