text: Mokordhon the Kachari king gave it them on his death-bed, as a permanent protection against forced labour, or exactions of any kind by his successors, and gave them exemption from soldiering, chaprassing, and being taken to different and distant places, as "if they go far away, even in a carriage, they go foolish".
