A small bamboo torch about a foot long is made and a hole dug. The torch, made bone-dry over a fire, is planted in the hole and lit with recitations of the appropriate formulae. If it burns right away, rain will stop in 2 or 3 days. This is rather a powerful ceremony, and is apt to produce drought, so must be used with discretion. |
