text: The croaking of a certain small frog in a house is a sign that the house will soon be empty and is particularly unlucky if anyone in the house be ill, as it presages death.
text: Vultures circling over a village is an unlucky sign, indicating death in the near future. If a villager is ill and particularly if they circle over the sick man's house, it is an omen of certain death.
text: A cricket chirping in the house means that the inmates will soon get meat to eat.
text: To stub one's toe on a stone when setting out on any errand or expedition is a sign of disappointment.
text: War-parties took the omens by releasing a cock. If it flew into a tree and crowed, they would win; if it flapped silently on to the ground, they would be defeated.
