On 5.2.1946 there was a death in the village. When I asked next morning who had died, I was told "the lower dekachang malik's wife. She was a very old woman". This seemed odd, as the 'malik' is man in his forties. From further enquiry it appeared that the lady was his mother, wife of his father and predecessor in office as malik, who had been dead for years.
