text: 8. Jiri valley, vicinity of Nenglo. SKETCH
text: Site lies half-way down spur running down to Jiri River. Approaching from Nenglo, path turns from ridge-top to south side, drops down a steep slope and enters narrow neck with steep slopes either side. This crossed by a ditch, with remnants of stonework on the N. side and a considerable wall, 2' or so high, with entrance in tact, on the south side. A short distance further on, possibly 20'-25', is a deep ditch completely barring the spur, with a steep bank 6'-7' high at least on the south side. The north bank is between 3' and 4' above the ditch bottom. The south bank may have had stone facing; amount of stones about suggests this possible; nut might be natural outcrops.
text: On top of small rise some 40' beyond wall are two large flat stones, one in situ, measuring 3'x2'x6.5", the other tilted up by a tree (about 3' diameter) which has grown at the edge. The latter measures approximately 5'x7'x9".
text: The top of the smaller stone has engraved markings. SKETCH
text: Larger stone is that from which "Nagas of old" are said to have fished out 'deo-moni' beads. The cavity is now quite big enough for a man to crawl into. A few flat stones laid horizontally under the centre of the slab suggest a 'paring'. These have been disturbed further outward, where a depression suggests treasure- seekers at work.
text: House-sites are some way off, but much levelled by cultivation. Another ditch reported lower down. Small level space noted just to N. of first ditch, W. of path
