The myth of origin of the moieties is as follows. It may be noted that the names Nriami and Neomi are in fact plural, although they appear in the myth as the names of individuals. -Mi as a suffix has the meaning 'people' and appears in Nzemi words denoting tribes or sections of the community; for example, Nroami (Kabui Nagas), katsingmi (elders). Nriami was the son of a female spirit called Heratingrangpui. One day an egg fell from the sky and landed near Nriami's house; he built a fence round it and watched it, and at last it broke open and Neomi came out.
