We have in the Central Nzemi community an essentially democratic political structure, and a kinship system composed of patrilineal descent-groups, the moiety and its subdivision the tsami. Overlying this kinship system there is a second pattern, the grouping into autochthons and non-autochthons, and over that again is a third, the grouping into discrete kienga. All these groupings have their different effects on village organization and cohesion. |
