surveying on Japvo; shell collecting |

Started again for the peak at 9 o/c. Took it easy going up as it was very misty. Wind blew cold all night a thorough draft through my shelter. On getting on the summit a moist wind was blowing fresh from the Westward clothing the trees in hoar frost half an inch long, the frost looking as if covered with snow. Set the men on rays Kadinba & Rekroma & opened out the southwest side & by evening a marked change was visible. Cloud all below us, Japvo quite clear, so only got a momentary view of Paona abt 12 o/c. Went out on the NW side to look after some trees that may fall on the Kadinba ray. They are not large & will soon come down. Had a search for shells & got two sp of Diplomma, I think new, one very like D. Sherfaiendis but more turn'd and an Alycoeus another variety of A. Graphicus. Left the hill at 4pm. Temp're then 29 degrees, at 4 o/c it was 31 degrees. No rice sent up for us so served out the last eleven and a half seers & went to bed with misgivings as to the morrow. |
