Off pretty early & descended into the valley of the Zullu. Fair path through a great deal of rice terrace cultivation. Hills all of friable clay slates & shales. Thence came a rather long gradual ascent to Kidimah where Butler & Thompson are in camp. Got in abt 4 o/c, very glad to see them. We were soon talking over plans of future work & my week on Japvo. After some bkfast we started away for the mark they have set up on the boundary on the Kidimah ridge on South & I took theod to observe angles there. Butler still confined to dooly by his sprained foot. Got through the observations & had the whole line of boundary pointed out to me which is so simple I shall take it up on the inch scale as quite large enough. The country here is certainly extremely striking & quite unlike the western part of the Burrail. In the shelter of the grass walls round the fire we sat until 11 o/c talking of Nagas & Naga Hills. Min ther 36 degrees. |
