19. We were unable to leave Nankam until the morning of the 2nd March, on which day I marched back to Pangti, which I burnt to the ground in accordance with the instructions received from you. After leaving Pangti, we passed on the 4th March through the villages of Changse and Rechim, both of which had also been rebuilt,and the reception the Nagas gave us proved fully how completely the punishment inflicted on them for the treacherous attack on Christmas Day had taught them our power, and at the same time our forbearance. |

20. On Sunday, the 5th March, we marched into Wokha, having completed the work on which we had been detached. The party under my command behaved in every respect well, the sepoys being well kept in hand by Jemadar Babu Jan, who afforded me evey assistance and support. |
