Up at day break. Went up to the mark. Observed. Plane tabled and got rest of cutting done and mark up about 1.30. Returned to camp. Breakfast. Colonel astonished me by talking as if I had settled to start at once for Wokha as he did not seem to think it possible to get supplies this side of the Doiang, notwithstanding my wish to stop in the burnt village. (I found afterwards he misunderstood me and thought I meant to remain in lower villages). I determined to carry out my original programme and come onto Lukobo for this night at any rate and if we could get nothing here to move down the next day and sit in the other villages. But according to my expectation we found a large quantity of dhan, and I decided to remain here till we could come to an understanding with our neighbours and pound out rice in the meantime. Had a great hunt for water. I found it about 50 yards below spot at which sepoy searchers had turned back. Found khair in fields. |
