text: Up early. Nagas brought in about 3.5 bags of rice. I left the Colonel to go straight into Nungatung while I went round by Shenokesami, which I did, and then crossing the Doiang below that village reached Nungatung about 2.30. The Colonel fell upon evil roads and did not turn up till about 4. I sat in the village till he arrived and then looked out for water after thinking about (sic). But then I went down and sat by myself in the jungle and fell asleep to the alarm of the Colonel who did not know where I had got to and sent out in all directions. Kurchul, Kuki sirdar, discovered me.
text: Shenokesami is a fine village beautifully situated with a good (sic) of rolling open grassland about it, as at Yanthamo and most Sema villages.
text: Our first guide ran away as there was war between his village and Nungatung, but another followed us and took us on there. Asking how it was he was not afraid if there was war, he said that he had formerly been a Nungatung man but having gone to live at Shenokesami, he was a neutral and could travel backwards and forwards without fear. He went back without asking for any reward and was gone before I knew it.
text: The Sema name for Nungatung is Mechomi and of Chingagi - Chonkemi.
