attacks on the stockades at Samaguting and Pipima |
text: |
While the main body of the insurgent Nagas had been endeavouring to take Kohima, another band had attacked the stockade at Samaguting. This was on the 19th October. The assailants being easily repulsed, no further attempt was made on that post. At Piphima, however, the stage half way between Kohima and Samaguting, the stockade was burnt by the Nagas, and about 4,000 rounds of ammunition captured. The guard at this place, consisting of twelve frontier, police under a head constable, appear to have abandoned their post. Eight were killed, five only escaping to Samaguting. |
