text: On the 14th December Lieutenant Colonel Johnstone returned to Sachima, but was very shortly afterwards compelled by ill health to proceed to Manipur, leaving Captain Williamson in political charge. The Manipuri force appears to have returned with Colonel Johnstone; at all events they left for their own country about this time. On the same date the body of Mr. Damant, headless and handless, was found in a stream near Konoma. The head had previously been recovered by the people of Mozima and given up to Colonel Johnstone.
