On the 11th March, just before the Chief Commissioner left, the Semnama Khel of Konoma, and the Chitonoma Khel of Kohima, sent a deputation to ask for terms, promising on their part to surrender their arms within three days, and to bring the whole of their clan out of Chaka. Captain Williamson considered this to be a bona fide offer, but anticipated delay in its being carried out. |

General Nation notes that during the Chief Commissioner's stay of ten days he could not make any further advance in the arrangements for blockading the Chaka position, as he did not feel justified in reducing the garrison of Kohima while Sir Steuart Bayley remained there. The wing of the 18th Native Infantry was expected at Golaghat about the 13th; with it was a detachment of fifty six rifles, 43rd Assam Light Infantry, which the General had ordered down from Dibrugurh. |
