Food of the country.- Rice and millet are the chief articles of cultivation among the Nagas, but pumkins, sweet potatoes, and mustard, are grown as vegetables near villages. The Nagas eat beef, pork, fowls, &c., and it is probably to this diet that they owe their powerful frames, which are strengthened and hardened by the severe exercise of continually ascending and descending their native hills, and by carrying heavy loads. " The muscular development of an adult Naga is admirable." |
