24th February, Thursday. Was out all day with Dr. Brown examining the country to the west of Takrobajo and I am happy to say with a good result for from which I have seen of the country I now feel quite confident that the Seejo river which takes its rise from that portion of the summit or watershed of the Burrail range on which the Maon villages are situated and from thence flows north into Assam is identical with the Mawon Maon River referred to by my Messr. Gordon and Bigge in their report on the boundary Dr. Brown however appears most unaccountably to me to be doubtful about it and I fear from the discussion we had today that we shall end by holding different opinions. I can not help thinking the fact is he is very anxious that the Munipoories should not lose the large village of Sopoomah and would therefore like a modification of the boundary however thats a proposition which of course I cannot entertain for one moment for I have not the authority to do so and besides which from what I have seen up to the present I consider the line of 1842 cannot be improved upon. |
