17th December. Captain Blathwayt left me this morning for Golaghat and I moved Camp up to Triho, a Rengmah Naga village situated on a small spur running down between the Dehorijan and the Guriajan, both feeders of the Kolliani. |

18th December. Breakfasting at Thopajong. I moved Camp to Satisen leaving Piho some way to the south. These are all Rengmah Naga villages situated on the Hills along the left bank of the Kolliani and so if it is really ever eventually decided that river is to mark the boundary between the Naga Hills on the one side and Nowgong and Seebsagar on the other, all these Nagas (a good third) will have to belong to one or other of the above named districts, and I cannot help here remarking that I think it would be far better instead of adopting such a course as that it could be arranged that all or a portion at least of the Mikirs could be made over to the Naga Hills and be thus placed under a simple system of Government which they fully understand and thoroughly appreciate. However this is a matter for the consideration of the Commissioner and it is needless for me to do more at present than simply invite his attention to it. |
