21st December. Moved Camp to the "Tarapung", a mineral spring situated on the right bank of the Horu Kolliani about a day's march from its source. This spring lies in a remarkably pretty glade in the midst of the forest surrounded on all sides by low hills and is the resort of innumerable wild beasts of every kind, from the elephant, tiger and mithan down to the pig. Wild dog and other whose excreta covered the banks of the pool for a good foot in depth, which fact alone gives one some idea of the numbers of the ferox nature which must visit it almost daily or nightly which is more probable. I shot a very fine sambor which was feeding close by as we first came out upon the glad, so I hope to get some sport tomorrow. |
