text: | The Dussera, or as it is called in Munnipore "Kwaktalba", is the principal festival introduced with Hindooism. At it the tributaries lay presents before the Raja and renew their engagements of submission. Honorary dresses, plumes of feathers, and other baubles which are highly prized, are distributed to persons who, during the past year, may have distinguished themselves, or to others who at some former period had done so, but whose merit had passed unrewarded. |
