30. In the Sibsagar district the Nagas who frequented the plains during the cold weather behaved very well. The police officers in the frontier outposts have made no complaints against the conduct of the Nagas passing the outposts. The Deputy-Commissioner of Sibsagar was from time to time visited by deputations from Naga villages. The visitors brought with them presents of goats, daos, spears, and other articles, and received in return rum, red cloth, shells and beads as presents from Government. The visits were all of courtesy, with the usual protestations of friendship with the British Government. |
