29. The relations of the Nagas on the frontier of Sibsagar continue as peaceful as before and their behaviour was generally satisfactory. As in previous years, they paid the usual visits of courtesy and brought presents. There were four cases during the year under report in which five Nagas were convicted. One Naga was fined Rs.1 for defiling water reserved for drinking purposes, two were convicted for theft, one of whom was sentenced to a whipping of 15 stripes with a rattan, and the other to three months' rigorous imprisonment. Two Nagas were convicted under the Arms Act, XI of 1878. |

The Nagas are steadily making progress towards civilisation and are nowadays more frequently found to work in gardens for wages and to settle in Government land. |
