62. The general conduct of the Nagas was good. There were three cases of murder of which two were committed from the mere love of killing and not from any desire for revenge or gain. The first case which took place near the Sijju river, has already been described in paragraph 60 above. The second case reported was the murder of a Dogra sepoy of the Military Police and a Naga boy at the Zullu river about 7 miles from Kohima by men of the Kekroma village. The case had not been disposed of when the year came to a close. In the third case, three Burmese traders, on their way to Golaghat were set upon near Barpathar by three armed Nagas who were reported to be either Lhotas or Semas, and beaten and robbed, one of the Burmese dying of his wounds within twenty-four hours. The murderers had not been discovered up to the close of the year. |
