20. There was a good deal of restlessness across the frontier east of Mokokchang. The Kukis in this district were not affected by the Kuki disturbance in Manipur. They remained loyal, but there was much alarm in the Kacha Naga country and among some Kukis at the threats of the Manipur Kukis that they would come and cut up the villages which had not joined them. The placing of a post at Henima and the subsequent operations of the Henima Jampi column did much to restore confidence. The Angami Naga villages were also much alarmed owing to the concentration of Kukis near Lapvomi, but a guard sent out to the neighbourhood checked the activities of the Kukis. The Naga Labour Corps which were to France in April 1917 have since returned and their work in France is reported to have been most satisfactory. |
