16. The administered district was quiet throughout the year. In the area under loose political control, petty wars occurred as usual. The Thachumi-Purruto war has been settled, but the question of land is likely to lead to further trouble eventually. The Panso-Chingmei war continued and the former lost three men and the latter one. In the war between Shengha and Tang, three men of the latter village were killed. Ngang and Chongwe have been at war throughout the year and Chinglong and Angfang (a village outside the control area) have joined forces with Chongwe. Few lives, however, have been lost. In the Konyak country, the people of Lengha carried off a small girl from the administered village of Longkai. The girl was promptly recovered and Lengha warned. In defiance of orders Totok used a gun in their perennial war with Shuwa and the village was fined Rs. 100. Guns and gunpowder are both manufactured in large quantities in the Totok area, and the manufacture is improving in quality. |
