distinctive features of Nagas and affinities to other tribes in Assam, Borneo and Phillipines |

This picture has now paled, but for anthropology it remains significant as an example of an archaic culture of great wealth and complexity. Though adjoining a region which had been dominated by Hindu civilization for several centuries, the Naga hills remained outside the Hindu cultural sphere. Racially as well as culturally the Nagas have close affinities with the hill tribes of the eastern Himalayas ( for example, Daflas, Apa Tanis, and Abors), and in some respects they resemble even such distant ethnic groups as the Ifugaos and Igorots of Northern Luzon and the Dayaks of Borneo. |
