text: The habitat of the Konyak Nagas extends between 26 and north latitude, and thus lies outside the tropics. The climate however, is basically tropical, though seasonal variations are great. In the summer, temperatures in the valleys rise well above 100o F, and even on the hills, where the villages lie, temperatures in the middle eighties are common. In the winter, however, temperatures in the higher villages may sink at night to below freezing point, and cause acute discomfort to the scantily clad Konyaks. Yet, the more elevated village sites are considered desirable, perhaps because they lie above the malarial zone and are thus healthier than the villages of the foothills.
