Wakching village, size and location |

Wakching, the village I studied in 1936 and 1937, occupied the highest point of a broad and somewhat uneven ridge which rose to an altitude of about 4300 feet. With 249 houses, and a population of about 1300 inhabitants, it was the largest village within a radius of about 10 miles. Its size as well as its splendid strategic position had secured it against the attacks of hostile neighbors long before the establishment of Pax Britannica had put an end to head-hunting raids within the Naga Hills district. |
