text: The changing seasons involved the Konyaks in a varied rhythm of agricultural activities and numerous festivals and ceremonies which interrupted the routine of farm work, and diverted, often for several days at a time, the villagers interests from agricultural to social and ritual affairs, but in spite of the diversity of occupations and interests, the Konyaks recognized a prescribed schedule for their daily activities, and the language of a village such as Wakching contained fixed terms for the times of day which were properly devoted to regular activities. In the absence of any other measure of time, these terms allowed the Konyak to identify with adequate precision the times of the day and the night.
