The largest corporate social unit was the village. Though divided into wards, which were liable to confront each other in postures of rivalry, a Konyak village evinced on many occasions a spirit of solidarity and considerable local patriotism. Its inhabitants joined in the celebration of the seasonal festivals, performed agrarian rites together, and observed periods of taboo and abstention from work commonly. |
