text: In the same way as the smaller villages to the northeast of Wakching were tributary to the Oukheang morung, so several villages to the south recognized the overlordship of the Thepong morung. In the year of my stay in Wakching the Thepong men decided that they would not hire and jointly cultivate any field, on behalf of the morung because the tribute they received from their vassals would provide sufficient rice for all their morung celebrations.
